From the midst of the rubble that used to be the government school system, instructions are now going out to kill off alternative options. However, mothers who are also intellectual and business leaders, such as Mampela Ramphele and Wendy Luhabe, tell us that our shools are now worse than Bantu Education.

They should know. Bantu Education is what they had, before 1976.

But Angie Motshekga, MEC for Education in Gauteng, wants all homeschoolers to be qualified and certified teachers (of which there are fewer in the schools every day), all home education to comply with the discredited national curriculum, and all homelearners to follow programmes registered wih the South African Qualificaions Authority (SAQA). Those are only some of the "guidelines and criteria" the MEC intends to impose on homeschoolers in Gauteng.

Kader AsmalOn 4th October 2001, the then minister of Education, Kader Asmal, and the chariman of the Curriculum Committee, Prof Linda Chisholm, issued a media statement attacking the Pestalozzi Trust in a vicious bout of propaganda.

Strangely, the statement is now attributed to Chisholm alone in the government archives on the internet!

 SkoolA Pretoria high school has reversed its decision to reject an application for a former home learner to enter the school for Grade 8.

The school reconsidered its position after representations from the parent. The parent was supported by the Pestalozzi Trust and assited by a former member of the Pestalozzi Board of Trustees.
